Gordon Riddell
Member of the Lac St-Pierre Association: 39 years.
Roles: 11 years as an Executive during the 1980s and early 1990s. He served as Secretary during the Presidencies of Lucie Carleton, Jacques Patenaude, Hubert Patenaude and Claude Choquette. Gordon also served as President for 4 years over that period.
Significant accomplishment: In the 1980’s the influence of the Association was modest. In those days, a representative of the Association had difficulty obtaining access to a member of the Environment
Department. Engaging Municipal officers was a key accomplishment arising from Gordon’s involvement. This early initiative led to the Mayor attending AGMs and answering questions in addition to our current ongoing relations with Municipal officers. Gordon’s most memorable remembrance was accompanying a Municipal Inspector during the Inspector’s inspection of septic systems. On one occasion they found that the pipe from the toilet ran directly into the lake! This finding enabled the Municipality to commence appropriate remedial action.
Thoughts for the future: Water quality in the lake and combatting pollution were always Gordon’s main concerns and continue to be at his present age of 97.

Grant Walsh
Member of the Lac St-Pierre Association: 31 years and continuing
Roles: 7 years as President, 9 years representative on the Federation of Lakes, 1 year as board member of lake St-Pierre
Significant accomplishment: launching the first edition of Echos de Nos Lacs. The newsletter was so well received that the Federation des lacs took over the publication which still exists to this day as an integrated publication offered by VDM. We took the proliferation of the weeds (myriofil) very seriously. We made submissions to the Quebec government and received 2 years funding to regenerate our shoreline and visited all shoreline property owners to educate and plant shrubs. The success of this program is evident everywhere along the shoreline.
Thoughts for the future: My focus was to educate and engage our property owners in collaboration with other stakeholders (i.e., VDM, local residents and merchants) to better understand the need to safeguard the lake water quality which is directly related to protecting the environment (i.e., regenerating the shorelines, septic system programs, planting trees, etc.), they go hand in hand. My personal mission was, is and will always be, Participate, take Action, Educate and have FUN in the process.

Russel Rieger
Member of the Lac St-Pierre Association: 14 years.
Roles: 4 years as President, Past President, 6 years as Member of Board of Directors of Lac St-Pierre Association, 4 years as Lake Association representative on Federation of Lakes, 1 year as President Federation of Lakes.
Significant accomplishment: The Association’s ability to move the Municipality to pass a ByLaw to regulate the use of the boat ramp by installing a barrier and have personnel there to control the use. The By-law also restricted use to Wake boats and Seadoos plus charged a larger fee for boats from outside the Val-des-Monts which reduced boat traffic. The Association has always been a leader amongst the lakes in the region to protect the water quality and the shoreline environment.
Thoughts for the future: Continue the Association’s active approach at promoting water quality plus engage with interested parties and the municipality to control the spread of Eurasian Milfoil. I use control because I do not believe it will be eradicated.
A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to M. Rieger in August 2018.

Significant accomplishment: installation and supervision of the public boat ramp, online membership registration.
Thoughts for the future: collaborate with the Federation of Lakes, the membership and the Municipality to continue the work on the control of Milfoil and find solution for cleaning of boats prior to launch.
A certificate of Appreciation was presented to M. Pronovost by the Board of Directors in August 2018.

Bernard Lalonde
Member of the Lac St-Pierre Association: 8 years and continuing
Roles: 4 years as President, Past President, and 4 years as Member of the Board of Directors of the Lac St-Pierre Association
Significant Accomplishment: Working with governing bodies to address safe boating practices, and enforcement of boat ramp by-laws. Analyzing and proposing solutions to address water safety issues, lake shore erosion, and property damage caused by boating activities on Lac St-Pierre.
Thoughts for the Future: As lakefront homeowners, we all have a special relationship with our lake and its natural surroundings. We have a duty to maintain Lac St-Pierre's beautiful resources for future generations. There's no question that our lake is threatened by over-development, invasive species, shoreline erosion, nutrient loading, and more. This makes it clear that lake stewardship is needed now more than ever before. Lake stewardship is about collectively, as a community, taking care of Lac St- Pierre so future generations can enjoy and cherish it as we do today. The more we all participate, the healthier our lake will become.
