Where do your fees go?

Over the past few years, the membership fees have been used for the following activities:

Water Testing: the Lac St. Pierre Association has been collecting annual data on phosphorus levels and water clarity measurements for many years. We are actively participating in the Water Quality Monitoring Program that is currently organized by the municipality (previously organized by the Lake Federation). This historic data provides valuable information regarding the health and aging of our lake.

Buoy Program: Every year since 2012, the Association has purchased and installed many WHITE and hundreds of YELLOW buoys in strategic locations to prevent boaters from navigating into areas on the lake that are infested with Eurasian Watermilfoil, an invasive aquatic plant. We plan to continue this program to prevent the spread of this quickly multiplying invasive weed.

Shoreline restoration: “EcoAction”, the Federal Ministry of the Environment program that our lake has participated in several times. We have contributed over three thousand dollars towards the restoration of our shorelines which is considered to be one of the best strategies to protect the quality of our water.

Insurance: the Association and its Board members have insurance to cover the activities of the Association. Given the size of the Association and the kind of activities involved, the cost of insurance is fairly high.

Website: Although the updates and upkeep of our website are done by volunteers, there are annual costs for our domain and website hosting service. We hope you like our new website! We worked hard to make it beautiful and easy to navigate!

Social Activities: Now that the worst of COVID-19 is (hopefully) behind us, we plan to get back to having organized social activities for our members to meet, have fun and build our community. Please stay tuned for coming events!

Projects: A portion of our funds support several on-going projects including Eurasian Watermilfoil control, and aquatic invasive species control and prevention.

• NOTE: NO funds are used for any of our monthly Board meetings. The Board members are all volunteers and we do not have any paid staff. All funds go to the Association’s activities outlined above.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! In order for the Association to continue its current level of activities and to increase its involvement with other important projects, we need as many members as possible. We also need all residents to become more educated, involved and engaged in what goes on in our community.
